Day 11 - Enjoying the Non-Scale Victories

I'm very thankful I was able to get right back on track today.  I was still cool enough when I got up, so I started the day with a walk outside.  I walked around 1 1/2 miles (right at 4000 steps).  I got in two extra glasses of water to rehydrate and had oatmeal for breakfast.  That seems to be my go-to breakfast right now.  It has zero points.  I just sweeten it with Splenda.

I was motivated to get my steps up to 10,000 as early as I could.  I don't exactly understand the activity points system on WW (I was reading about it today), but I think I have pretty much the maximum activity points earned for the week, but I can't use those points each day unless I have a base of 3000 steps on that particular day.  I looks like I am given 3 or 4 points for each day(?).  That will definitely motivate me to get those steps in as early as possible to get those extra points!  I plan to check with my WW leader when I get back to meetings.

I did Curbside Pickup at Wal-Mart at 4:00, and when I got back, I was zonked for some reason.  I just felt like I hadn't eaten enough and needed more calories.  I had made an egg burrito for lunch (3 points), so when I got home, I made a zero-point smoothie, made from frozen fruit, nonfat plain yogurt, an egg, sweetener and vanilla.

I still felt wiped out when Jake got home and couldn't think of a thing for dinner.  I guess one mistake I made was that I was so focused on getting in my 10,000 steps that I did not even think about dinner.  I had zero ideas, and Jake suggested picking up Taco Villa (a Texas fast food restaurant), kind of like Taco Bell, but MUCH better.  I had a bean burrito and taco for 13 points.  That used up all of my daily points except one (plus 3 activity points).  I felt better after dinner.

We are leaving for the Texas Hill Country on Saturday, and I hope to prepare myself a bit for that tomorrow.  My daughter-in-law always has a lot of food prepared, and even though it is always very healthy and organic, it may not be WW friendly.  I want to have plenty of zero-point foods with me such as grilled chicken breast, boiled eggs, and some other things.  I also got a big package of 1-point string cheese.

Part of my 10,000 steps was six minutes of jogging.  I also did some squats and quite a few pushups against the kitchen counter.  My knees always hurt when I do squats, so I did some research on that.  The articles I read said that squats are always good for the knees and do not injure them.  In fact, it may improve the condition.  My knees are just tender, not like they are injured.    But the reading I did motivates me to do the squats even with some discomfort.

I was talking before about not focusing so much on performance.  One thing I'm reminding myself is enjoying the non-scale rewards.  Like how good it feels to eat healthier food.  And feel my stomach gradually shrink.  And enjoy it when my mobility improves day by day.  And love wearing new and smaller clothes.  And doing new things that I could not do before.  It is more about the things we experience and are able to experience than the actual achievement.  Of course, losing 100 pounds would be thrilling in itself, just to say that I lost 100 pounds.  But to experience and enjoy the results of those pounds lost, that I what I want to focus on.  And the new person I will become.

I hope it sounds like my mood has been pretty good these days.  And it has been.  I do watch it carefully and watch my thought life.

I had one daily point and 3 activity points to spend tonight.  I had some cottage cheese and pineapple (0 points), then 1/2 cup of Reese's Puffs.  Weird?  It works.:)

Day Six

Woke up about 10:30 after a very late night, just couldn't fall asleep. Had a Cliff bar early as usual.  Had carrots, grapes, chips and salsa for lunch.  A few animal crackers before dinner, then chicken breast, green peppers and onions, greens, queso, Mexican rice, Oreos, chocolate covered pretzels.   Ok, tomorrow, I'm going to try to watch my snacking tomorrow.  Let's see how I do. No walking, but we went to our storage and dug out household stuff, so I did get some exercise.   One regular Diet Coke, one Zevia, quite a bit of water.

Day 5 - Some New Steps

A little more background: During this funk I was in, I stopped doing almost everything.  All I wanted to do was stay in bed, or if up, watch TV or read.  That's a terrible place to be.  I suspect many of us have given up on life for at least brief times in our lives.  I don't have to work, and there was very, very little I absolutely had to do.  Any trips out of the house were usually to the grocery store.  When we traveled to see the kids, I would manage to come "alive" for a few days, and then go back to my hole when we returned home.  I guess it's a perfect description of depression.   Jake didn't pressure me, pretty much left me alone.  I was glad about that, though I did from time to time tell him what was going on with me.  I just could think of nothing I wanted to do, interested in nothing.  I tried to keep my communication with God open and honest, so I least I wasn't totally hiding from Him.   If something ne...

Days 27 and 28

The last two days are not really worth recording.   This is like one of those times in the past when I arrived at a point where I never got back on track, and my aim is to change that pattern.  So many times in the past when I would start on Weight Watchers, I would be perfect for the first three weeks or so.  Then as soon as I cheated the first time, it seemed like I could never get back on track.  And then I would quit.  That perfection thinking defeated me. Also, the first time I had a weigh-in day when I knew or thought I would be up on the scales, I would not go to that meeting because I wanted a loss every time I went.  Then the next week might be worse, and the missed meetings would stretch out until I finally just quit. Now it's very obvious to me why I have not succeeded in the past.  With those kinds of expectations, who can measure up?  Any kind of journey is dotted with slipups and failures, usually many, along the way....
