Day Six

Woke up about 10:30 after a very late night, just couldn't fall asleep. Had a Cliff bar early as usual.  Had carrots, grapes, chips and salsa for lunch.  A few animal crackers before dinner, then chicken breast, green peppers and onions, greens, queso, Mexican rice, Oreos, chocolate covered pretzels.   Ok, tomorrow, I'm going to try to watch my snacking tomorrow.  Let's see how I do. No walking, but we went to our storage and dug out household stuff, so I did get some exercise.   One regular Diet Coke, one Zevia, quite a bit of water.

Day Five

Woke up about 9:30.   Cliff bar early morning.  Grilled cheese for lunch, on organic bread, butter and cheese.  Papa John's Pizza for dinner.  Too much snacking last night: Oreos, pretzels dipped in white chocolate, Pringles, Tootsie Rolls, SF chocolate.   Couple of minutes on elliptical, 10 minutes on Total Gym, 15 minute walk.  One can regular Diet Coke, half bottle CF Diet Coke, one Zevia, water.   Took my supplement.   Took forever to fall asleep, just slept lightly until after 3:15.  Woke up about 10:30 next morning. I need to concentrate on the extra snacking.  If it's in front of me, I tend to eat it.

Dat Four

Even though I feel asleep so late, I didn't sleep past 9:30 and was okay the rest of the day.   I put my supplements by my bedside, so it's helping me remember to take them.  I ate at least half of my diet organic, did have some candy last night and some Pringles.  When they are gone, I don't plan to buy anymore.   Nutrasweet consumption was about the same:  one full can plus a few ounces from a bottle.   Motion was increased.  I did about five minutes on the elliptical and took a 15 minute walk on hills.   I went to bed about 1:00 and went to sleep fairly quickly.  The journaling started yesterday.  I caught up and this is my first daily update since. Feeling optimistic, though I have some moments of wanting to eat junk food.  Also feeling lighter.  I suspect movement may make the biggest improvement in that area, rebuilding muscles and increasing conditioning.

Day Three

I went to sleep at 12:40 last night, but did not deeply fall asleep until almost three,:(  It's a process.  I ended up sleeping pretty late, I think until noon. I had a lot of organic and/or clean items today, though I did eat some dirty items and sugar.  I also could not fall asleep tonight until very late, and I ended up eating some junk food (Rice Krispy bar and some Tootsie Rolls).  Wouldn't you know it, I fell asleep almost immediately after that.   Kari talked me into going upstairs and exercise a bit on the Total Gym and elliptical.  I was a bit leery of the Total Gym because my back had gone out this summer, but I was very careful, and I don't think I hurt it.  I also got on the elliptical for just a couple of minutes.  I was a start anyway, lol.   I forgot to go barefoot much, but did a little.

Day Two

Tuesday: Had a Cliff bar early in the a.m.  I ate almost totally organic all day.  I had some pasta for dinner that had a buillion cube in it (I assume it had MSG), and the spaghetti was not organic.   More stocking feet, not a lot. Only one can with NutraSweet. If think I do feel lighter, not so sluggish.

Day One

I've done this Day One before!   I started on Monday.  I can't remember how late I slept, I think maybe to about 10 a.m.  My first step was going to the grocery store.  I wanted to get some Zevia to slowly transition into and away from Diet Coke.  Cara drinks one Zevia a day and also puts her electrolyte drink into mineral water for her carbonation fix.  My first can wasn't too bad.  It definitely will take a while to really like it like I do Diet Coke.  It is very fizzy, which I love, but it has sort of a sour taste.  Cara did suggest trying the root beer kind and the Dr. Zevia, which she liked better, so I may do that.  I had that Zevia and then a regular Diet Coke.  I also had some water here and there in between.  I did have a bit of caffeine-free Diet Coke later.  I probably had about one-half of the Diet Coke that I usually do.   I also bought quite a few organic items:  carrots, grapes, bre...

New Program and a New Start

I forgot I had this blog.  Perfect place for this. I was at a get-together with my siblings last weekend, and I spent a lot of time talking to Cara, my sister-in-law.  What a sweetie she is--I really love her.  She is such a perfect mate for David. I was asking her questions about her seeing a doctor of functional medicine and what it involved.  We have a lot of the same issues with eating:  a habit of being all or nothing, a Diet Coke addiction, a history of similar health problems, being a night owl, etc.  I felt very safe talking with her about my issues since she's been there and understands.   She gave me a lot of details about changes she made and emphasized taking baby steps.  She also stressed that it wasn't necessarily about being 100% on a program but taking steps toward being healthy.  My biggest problem is with getting overwhelmed and either not starting at all or stopping when it gets hard.  She suggested I just t...
