Day 14 - End of Week Two and On the Road

My, it just dawned on me that this is the end of the second week.  I feel very encouraged with how well I have done!

As I said the other day, we are grandbaby sitting until Wednesday.  I didn't mention that our "grandbabies" are 13 and 15.:)  They are so easy.  They are actually very quiet compared to how quiet and noisy my own three kids were.  It's a very easy job.

The house is about 15 miles outside of Fredericksburg, Texas, which is one of the most charming, historic towns in Texas, right in the middle of Hill Country.  Being out in the country, we have some beautiful scenery to look at all day.  Plus the weather has cooled down, already feeling fallish, and the high tomorrow is supposed to be about 65 degrees with a big chance for rain.

The parents got off about 3:00 this afternoon, so it has just been the four of us since then.  The guys had picked up pizza for lunch, and there was plenty for dinner, so no cooking has been going on yet.

My plan has been working out so well!  I did have some of the pizza, which are very thin, slices, just three small squares.  Most rest of the day has been zero foods:  oatmeal, cottage cheese and pineapple, chicken breast and a boiled egg.  Those seem to be a lot of my go-to foods.  This evening, though, when I realized I had tons of extra points, I had a peanut butter sandwich and will have another snack before I go to bed.

Levi (the 13-year-old), Jake and I walked down the road to his other grandparents' house to feed and spend time with their new little chocolate Burmese cat.  It's probably about 10-15 minutes each way, but some steep hills.  I was actually surprised that I walked up the hills as easily as I did.  I have a long ways to go, but I could definitely tell that the last weeks' walks and short jogs are getting me fitter.  And my knees did just great on those slopes.  I didn't do any extra walking today to try to get 10,000 steps.

Later I did 20 squats, and I definitely could feel them in my knees, but I'm so glad to know that squats are actually good for my knees, so it didn't worry me to do the squats anyway.  After everyone else went to bed, I jogged (or rather shuffled) in a narrow circle through their kitchen and dining room for7 minutes.  I can't jog outdoors unless I go a ways from the house.  It's just too hilly.  I also did 25 leaning counter pushups.

Compared to fit people, I do very short fitness segments, except for outdoor walks.  The squats take less than 90 seconds, I'm sure.  So do the pushups.  The jogging 7 minutes and increasing.  But at my level of fitness, these little, singular sessions are doing a lot of good.  I'm hoping to increase the length of them as I get smaller and fitter.

I was looking at all of my points and calories tonight, suddenly remembering that this is the last day before weigh-in day, and I have not used up any of my weekly points or a lot of my activity points.  I actually have a surplus of weekly points.  Of course, I didn't count that day I just counted calories and didn't track points.  I don't want my body to get used to such a small amount of points every week.  I probably need at least one day when I have a higher calorie count per week so my body does not overly adjust to the lower calories.

I probably should try using about six extra (weekly) points a day throughout the week, and maybe save my activity points for extras.    I won't weigh in until at least Thursday or Friday, the morning after we get back.

Tomorrow, we have to figure out what to cook for these boys.  They are awesome eaters and not picky at all.  They have been raised on super-healthy food their whole lives, so they literally eat what is put before them.  I'm sure whatever it is will be easy anyway.

I'm looking forward to another beautiful day in the hill country!

**We were noticing today, that even though the skies were "clear," you could see a haze over the sky.  Reports are that the wild fires are reaching all the way to Europe!  We are suspecting that is what the haze is.

Day Six

Woke up about 10:30 after a very late night, just couldn't fall asleep. Had a Cliff bar early as usual.  Had carrots, grapes, chips and salsa for lunch.  A few animal crackers before dinner, then chicken breast, green peppers and onions, greens, queso, Mexican rice, Oreos, chocolate covered pretzels.   Ok, tomorrow, I'm going to try to watch my snacking tomorrow.  Let's see how I do. No walking, but we went to our storage and dug out household stuff, so I did get some exercise.   One regular Diet Coke, one Zevia, quite a bit of water.

Day 5 - Some New Steps

A little more background: During this funk I was in, I stopped doing almost everything.  All I wanted to do was stay in bed, or if up, watch TV or read.  That's a terrible place to be.  I suspect many of us have given up on life for at least brief times in our lives.  I don't have to work, and there was very, very little I absolutely had to do.  Any trips out of the house were usually to the grocery store.  When we traveled to see the kids, I would manage to come "alive" for a few days, and then go back to my hole when we returned home.  I guess it's a perfect description of depression.   Jake didn't pressure me, pretty much left me alone.  I was glad about that, though I did from time to time tell him what was going on with me.  I just could think of nothing I wanted to do, interested in nothing.  I tried to keep my communication with God open and honest, so I least I wasn't totally hiding from Him.   If something ne...

Days 27 and 28

The last two days are not really worth recording.   This is like one of those times in the past when I arrived at a point where I never got back on track, and my aim is to change that pattern.  So many times in the past when I would start on Weight Watchers, I would be perfect for the first three weeks or so.  Then as soon as I cheated the first time, it seemed like I could never get back on track.  And then I would quit.  That perfection thinking defeated me. Also, the first time I had a weigh-in day when I knew or thought I would be up on the scales, I would not go to that meeting because I wanted a loss every time I went.  Then the next week might be worse, and the missed meetings would stretch out until I finally just quit. Now it's very obvious to me why I have not succeeded in the past.  With those kinds of expectations, who can measure up?  Any kind of journey is dotted with slipups and failures, usually many, along the way....
