Day 3

So Day 3 was yesterday.  It went very steady until bedtime, which can be a problem at times.  I have had serious insomnia and/or some type of sleep disorder for over 20 years, so every night is an adventure!  Actually, the recent past has gone pretty well, and I'm closer to a normal sleeper than I have been in many years.  But back to Day 3.

My points for the day:

Breakfast:

Grapes - 0 points

(My stomach felt rather strange and acted up a bit.  Took awhile before I was ready for some heavier food.)

Lunch:

Leftover stir fry with rice - 1 point; small sloppy joe - 9 points

(My lunch drug out over a few hours)

Dinner:

Very small bowl of broccoli and cheese soup - 4 points; 4 club crackers - 2 points

Snacks:

Light English Muffin with Brummel & Brown yogurt spread - 4 points; small red potato with salt - 0 points; fat-free cottage cheese with crushed pineapple - 0 points

I used 20 points by evening, still without a bed time snack, dipping into my dailies by 3 points.  I always need a fairly substantial bedtime snack to go to sleep, so I was looking for free foods, hence the potato, then the cottage cheese with pineapple.

But I couldn't go to sleep.  I was restless and a bit itchy.  I finally got back up for awhile, walked around a bit to relax my legs.  I'm suspecting that I had the wrong kind of snack that puts me to sleep.  A lot of times, I will eat a small p.b. sandwich or something very carby.  I was suspecting that was some of the problem.  It was about 2 in the morning, so I went ahead and had that peanut butter sandwich (8 points).  This morning, I decided to count that as today's points since it was well after midnight.  That leaves me with eating a lot of zero foods today.

So end of day yesterday, I ate 20 points, leaving 33 weekly points (used 3 yesterday), only 1103 calories.   FitBit tracked 5621 steps.  I'm wanting to get to 10,000 daily, but it's a decent start.  I get rather lazy later in the day about getting up and walking around, especially when we are watching TV.

Day was interesting.  It seems like the calories are very low for the points eaten.  By evening, I had eaten only 880 calories with 20 points.  I guess I need to eat more free foods and very low-point foods.  It's really not enough calories, even the 1103 calories by bedtime.  That's definitely not sustainable for the long run, I'm thinking.

This morning, I was up on the scales a few ounces (that's with eating the PB sandwich in the middle of the night), so not surprising.

Day Six

Woke up about 10:30 after a very late night, just couldn't fall asleep. Had a Cliff bar early as usual.  Had carrots, grapes, chips and salsa for lunch.  A few animal crackers before dinner, then chicken breast, green peppers and onions, greens, queso, Mexican rice, Oreos, chocolate covered pretzels.   Ok, tomorrow, I'm going to try to watch my snacking tomorrow.  Let's see how I do. No walking, but we went to our storage and dug out household stuff, so I did get some exercise.   One regular Diet Coke, one Zevia, quite a bit of water.

Day 5 - Some New Steps

A little more background: During this funk I was in, I stopped doing almost everything.  All I wanted to do was stay in bed, or if up, watch TV or read.  That's a terrible place to be.  I suspect many of us have given up on life for at least brief times in our lives.  I don't have to work, and there was very, very little I absolutely had to do.  Any trips out of the house were usually to the grocery store.  When we traveled to see the kids, I would manage to come "alive" for a few days, and then go back to my hole when we returned home.  I guess it's a perfect description of depression.   Jake didn't pressure me, pretty much left me alone.  I was glad about that, though I did from time to time tell him what was going on with me.  I just could think of nothing I wanted to do, interested in nothing.  I tried to keep my communication with God open and honest, so I least I wasn't totally hiding from Him.   If something ne...

Days 27 and 28

The last two days are not really worth recording.   This is like one of those times in the past when I arrived at a point where I never got back on track, and my aim is to change that pattern.  So many times in the past when I would start on Weight Watchers, I would be perfect for the first three weeks or so.  Then as soon as I cheated the first time, it seemed like I could never get back on track.  And then I would quit.  That perfection thinking defeated me. Also, the first time I had a weigh-in day when I knew or thought I would be up on the scales, I would not go to that meeting because I wanted a loss every time I went.  Then the next week might be worse, and the missed meetings would stretch out until I finally just quit. Now it's very obvious to me why I have not succeeded in the past.  With those kinds of expectations, who can measure up?  Any kind of journey is dotted with slipups and failures, usually many, along the way....
